Examination of Willy and Lindas Relationship in The Good...

Comparison between â€Å"The Good Wife’s Guide† and Willy and Linda relationship Throughout the entire play Willy talks to Linda in a way demeaning way. During Act 1 there is a conversation with Bernard and Willy that Linda enters saying that some mothers thing Biff is â€Å"too rough† with their daughters. Willy was very upset with this news and told everyone to shut up which made Linda hold back tears and Bernard leave. This guide â€Å" Don’t ask him questions about his actions or question his judgment or integrity. Remember, he is the master of the house and as such will always be exercise his will with fairness and truthfulness. You have no right to question him.† The guide says the woman is wrong for questioning him. This is exactly what happens with Will and Linda which is why he gets so angry and she doesn’t say anything back. Toward the end of Act 1, Biff is getting ready for his loan interview. Willy ends up giving him advice tha t isn’t useful. Every time Linda tries to interject to help Biff, Willy tells her to be quiet several times. The guide says â€Å" A good wife will always knows her place.† She is technically being a bad wife because she keeps trying to add to the conversation even though Willy has hushed her. The guide shows women how to not have a voice or their own control and to be told and listen to everything the men say. Willy and Linda’s relationships is a lot like the guide because he is the one in control and never lets her have her own opinion or rights.
